For our latest feature coffee, we’ve sourced coffee from the emerging new coffee origin of Flores in Indonesia. With its tropical climate and rich volcanic soil, Flores shares similar growing conditions with its sister islands of Sumatra and Java.

The island’s coffee offers the traditional full body that is prized in Indonesian beans, but with a slightly more delicate and nuanced character. While the island itself is still under-developed, the coffee shows remarkable clarity and maturity, the signs of a well-grown crop.  We are proud to offer this exotic coffee experience to our customers with our new Rainforest Alliance® certified Organic Flores Green Dragon.

This coffee is named after one of the island’s most famous inhabitants—the Komodo dragon. By sourcing our coffee from a Rainforest Alliance certified farm, we are proud to support efforts to maintain a healthy environment for the dragons and other protected species. As part of our new Farm Development program, we will also be donating a portion of the sales of this coffee to assist the farmers of Flores with an organic pest management system.

We are roasting Green Dragon to a medium dark Viennese color to develop its dried fruit and sweet chocolate notes along with a slightly floral aroma.

11.7-g. pod. Absolutely not a morning coffee, in my experience; otherwise, very good. As whole bean there's a lightly edgy acidity that's nice but leaves me a little thirsty, like a diet soda. That plus the chocolate notes make for a very interesting and drinkable cup. Anyway, the pod version preserves enough of this character. Enjoyable body. "Dried fruit" is right. Subtle nuttiness and vague florals in the wet aroma. Cream not recommended. About as high of a "Solid" as I can imagine.

THESE PODS DELIVER A GOOD BOLD CUP OF COFFEE. NOT BITTER BUT YOU KNOW YOU ARE GETTING A GOOD START IN THE MORNING.  I WILL DEFINATELY PURCHASE THIS AGAIN....PERHAPS THE WHOLE BEAN THIS TIME.

This coffee is extremely smooth with grassy overtones and a nice roasted base. It's a medium body with good depth of flavour. I would buy this coffee again without any hesitation.

Outstanding flavours February 1, 2012

The pod is quite fragrant to the nose, heavily floral and fruity in smell. It took me a while to figure out what I was detecting and came to the conclusion that it's odours are very similar to my favourite type of herbal tea.

Taste wise the floral aspect of the coffee wasn't as apparent but the chocolate notes and the fruity aspects, similar to dried cherries, did pop. I noticed a very slight bitter tinge initially when I took my first few sips but that seemed to settle down. These pods are 12 g. so it makes quite a nice bold cup of coffee, sweet and complex.
Though I prefer my coffee black this would probably be quite nice with the addition of cream. This is a coffee I would certainly buy again. Highly recommended.
