We are very pleased to announce the launch of our latest signature coffee—Rainforest Alliance Swiss Water Process Firefly Decaffeinated.

The long neglected ugly duckling of the specialty coffee world, decaffeinated coffee options are often a poor substitute for the “real thing.” Our director of coffee development Adam Pesce notes: “The Firefly Project was all about changing the pre-conceived notions about decaf.”

Pesce began by sourcing an exceptional, single origin coffee from a progressive, Rainforest Alliance certified producer group in Brazil’s fertile Minas Gerais region. He selected a coffee with the character to maintain its exceptional taste and aroma through the decaffeination process.

In order to reach our goal of creating a sustainable decaffeinated coffee that doesn’t compromise taste, we selected the patented Swiss Water process to remove the caffeine without the use of chemicals. The result is a rich, aromatic coffee that we are proud to offer exclusively to our distinguished clients.

We roast Firefly to a medium-dark level to accentuate its buttery body and caramelized sugar flavors. With its dark chocolate notes and clean finish, this decaffeinated coffee is ideal for traditional drip and espresso brewing.

I have tried so many decaf coffees trying to find one that has the same rich, balanced, full bodied flavour of caffeinated varieties.  The Firefly Decaf is amazing!  It delivers on every note. Finally a decaf that I can drink and serve with confidence. The added bonus is it's Swiss Water Processed vs. chemical. Thank you for such a perfect blend!

Rich and delightful decaf January 1, 2012

This coffee is divine!  I purchased the whole beans and they had such a wonderful aroma!  I had taken them to work and the aroma kept wafting out at my desk.  So enticing!  When I ground the beans and made my first pot, I was delighted with the coffee.  It had a rich, creamy taste which was far better than I expected from a decaffeinated coffee.  I love this coffee and will definitely order it again!

An Exceptional Cup of Decaf Coffee July 4, 2011

The roaster describes this coffee as a medium-dark roast that accentuates this coffee’s buttery body and dark chocolate notes. Enjoy its caramelized sugar flavors and clean finish.  The dry beans smell like caramel while the brewed aroma is toffee.  The first sip is lively (but not over bright) but still able to accentuate the melon sweetness and dark cocoa developing in the middle and lasting through a finish that is shorter that I hoped for.  The mouth feel is medium thick (French press) and syrupy.   As it cools the dark chocolate and roasted nut notes dominate finish. The balance and clean, clear taste is pleasing – this is an exceptional decaf coffee with no hint of astringency even after cooling to room temperature. I do not normally drink decaf but decaf does not usually taste this good – highly recommended.
